The book arises out of an interest in analysing the relationship that is established between three apparently diverse spheres of knowledge: autobiographical oral memory, non-material heritage and the Internet. It starts out from a prior study on the use of the Internet for salvaging the historical memory of the Spanish Civil War, lying within the research areas of the Museia group (www.museia.cat) for the study of Arts and Humanities of the Open University of Catalonia. Following on from that, if we look at the matter in greater depth and deal with the subject of the potential the information and communication technologies offer us in that relationship, the panorama becomes clearer still, given that the Anglo-Saxon world is the only one that has, for a few years now, been specifically examining that link.

At the dawn of the century, museums of society seem to be reborn, with projects that are generating a new museum scene. The new vision, inspired by the Canadian model, is an interdisciplinary perspective on societies in which the same concepts "society" or "civilization" print a new discourse that aims to reflect the museum on the major challenges facing society today, such as multiculturalism, identities or the complexity of today's world. This book reveals some of society's most prestigious museums in the world and analyze the major issues they face.

The book is a theoretical and ethnografic contribution to the study of cultural and natural heritage in rural areas. Different authors describe processes of patrimonialization and uses of heritage within the context of policies designed to protect natural spaces. The papers analyse initiatives to revitalize or recreate elements of local culture and rural heritage via the creation of museums, festivals, craftwork, or natural food. The book includes three teoretical papers and twelve case studies based in the South of Europe (Italy, France Spain and Portugal).

To be or not to be of the sea, that's the question. Often it has been said that the Catalans were living back to the sea, although the sea framed their history and their horizon. This is the paradox from which the research collected in this book begin, and where a maritime Catalan identity is studied, taking Arenys de Mar as a case study. The book study the relationship of people of Arenys with the sea, analyzing how the sea port of refuge, built in 1911 following a dramatic sea storm, impacted on their imagination and transformed the local life and society.
