The use of cultural heritage
Normally, once an element becomes heritage it is given or acquires a use. Usually, this use is not linked to the original one. These uses are determined by the societies in which they emerge and can vary enormously in function of the interests and the moment. Hence, heritage ends up involving a multitude of indirect uses or uses different to the original ones, for example, educational, tourism, economic and social uses that can act separately or interact and condition one another. On the other hand, these uses and the conservation, promotion and management policies and actions linked to them cannot be separated from the value of the “no use” of this heritage that, despite the apparent contradiction, conditions the use of heritage. The aim of this line of research is to carry out a critical analysis of the multiple uses and “no uses” of cultural heritage and their effects.
